Music to our Ears: Halladay is on the Block

J.P. Ricciardi has recently admitted that he is willing to listen to offers for the Ace of his pitching staff, Roy Halladay. At first glance, I almost foamed at the mouth. Can you imagine the Mets sending out Santana and Halladay back to back? The thought is downright intoxicating.
Realistically, I do not think the Mets would have a shot to pull such a trade off. Much like a post that was written earlier, I think the Mets would have a much more realistic shot of acquiring Alex Rios and his monster contract. I think it would cost a bit more than previously mentioned, but the Mets wouldn’t have to break the bank.
Halladay would cost a slew of minor league talent. I think Brad Holt, Jennry Mejia and Fernando Martinez would just be the beginning. Halladay is definitely the best pitcher in baseball right now, and there is no reason for Ricciardi to trade him unless he is getting a king’s ransom.
One thing that scares me is Philly. I think they might just have the ammo to pull such a deal off. They would probably have to deal J.A. Happ and two or three other guys who have top potential, but that might just get the deal done. If that trade were to happen, I think Mets fans would cry to no end.
I know I would.
All I know is that it would definitely cost a small fortune for the Mets to get baseball’s cream of the crop in pitching. Part of me would be hesitant because such a trade would really deplete the Mets’ farm system.
Truth be told. Matt Fakenbury put it best. He is probably going to be a Dodger. They have a solid system and if they build a package around Clayton Kershaw, they could get a deal done.
Halladay as a Dodger or a Phillie would not be too pretty of a picture for our boys in the orange and blue.
