Hey Omar, bring up the kids.

Let me see Ruben Tejada now. Reyes is out for the year. This is now obvious. Alex Cora is not an everyday player. We’ve seen Anderson Hernandez and he’ll be playing 2B anyway.

Also, bring up Josh Thole. Heard the kid can rake. Let him catch one day a week. Schneider is not going to be a Met next year anyway. What about Ike Davis? He’s looking studly. Give the fans a glimpse into the future, keep them interested going into the next year and beyond.

Making the playoffs is a real stretch of the imagination at this point. I think we’d all agree on that. Why not show the fans the players you refused to trade away? Instead of calling up Elmer Dessens what was wrong with calling up a Brad Holt or Dillion Gee. Forget September call ups.

I think now is the time to flash the kids. Showcasing them now is a no-brainer. You get the fans excited and you put them out for scouts to see. Off-season changes are naturally going to happen. Allowing your minor-leagures to show scouts what they can do at this level will benefit you.

As long as they don’t completely suck of course. It’s honestly better than watching Cora dive for a ball up the middle that Reyes would have caught without even diving and Elmer Dessens really doesn’t need anymore chances at this.

C’mon Omar. There’s a reason you didn’t trade these kids right? Give us a taste.

You’re half right, in that your suggestion of bringing up the youngsters is good.

You’re also half wrong, ’cause why would you bring up Thole to catch one day a week? Let the kid get at-bats in the minors, don’t make him come up to sit in the majors. Tejada is also young and not on the 40-man. But Holt I would like to see.

Don’t go crazy calling up every prospect this side of Binghamton because sometimes rushing players to the majors is more detrimental to their development than beneficial, especially if their playing time is cut into and if they fall flat on their faces.

Ruben Tejada is just 19. He will be overwhlemed by the speed and talent level of the major leagues at this point of his career, which could lead to a cascade of confidence for someone so young. I know the other options at middle infield reek right now, but Tejada simply isn’t ready for big league action.

Same for Brad Holt. His lack of secondary stuff after his fastball will make him an easy target for major league hitting. And he’s not exactly tearing up AA. Allow him to develop a full arsenal of pitches in the minors away from the bright lights and high pressures of the big leagues. He’ll be better for it.

Also, Dillon Gee is injured so you can’t go there.

I’m with you, though, on Ike Davis and Josh Thole. They look as polished as ever and project to have the potential to be key contributers for the Mets in the not-so-distant future. I’d also call up Nick Evans, Ed Kunz, Adam Bostick, and Lance Broadway to see if they are worthy of holding on to, or if they’re just going to be career minor leaguers.
