This past week Anthony Rieber of Newsday reported that Fred Wilpon attended Game 1 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. Some Mets fans may have been perturbed that he was there, however I think it was a terrific idea.

The Mets have been mired in a laughable state for quite some time. Ownership has probably forgotten how winning organizations work. Visiting Yankee Stadium, Wilpon was able to see what it’s like to be a winner. He was able to see a stadium where a team’s history was properly on display. Finally, our wonderful owner(sarcasm) was able to see fans cheer their team on, instead of the nightly boos and laughs.

You have to google the word “Mets” in order to find any substantial newspaper articles about the boys in Flushing. It seems like our baseball team has been forgotten and Yankee fever is taking over. Mr. Wilpon must have taken in the atmosphere in the Bronx and thought, “I wish we had that.” Better yet, he may have just been surprised that baseball can be this exciting.

Will Fred Wilpon learn anything from his pilgrimage to the Bronx? Probably not. But at least one person in Metsland saw quality baseball for a change.
