I'm against Molina, just basing it on Economics, but Bedard I love. It's buy cheap scenario and Garko I'm eh. Give or take.

I know you said you "don't care what people say about Fernando Tatis" so if you really feel strongly about that you should stop reading now.

If we are comparing Ryan Garko and Fernando Tatis strictly as platoon partners for Murphy at 1B I'm inclined to agree that Garko is an upgrade. Garko is the superior defensive first baseman. Unfortunately 1B is really Garko's only viable position. Yes he's played both corner OF spots, but not well.

Tatis is a better LF, and LF is the corner OF spot where either guy would be likely to see playing time. Garko doesn't play anywhere else. Tatis may not be a gold glover, but he is a decent 3B and can play SS or 2B in an emergency, which increases his value. Basically if Garko isn't helping you at 1B or as a pinch hitter he's not helping you.

Offensively, I like to look at what a player has done over their last 3 years. During that time frame, Garko's slash line is .278/.350/.437 and his OPS+ is 108. Tatis' slash line is .286/.349/.462 with an OPS+ of 113. What separates them is Garko is a bit more likely to homer, but Tatis is more likely to hit a double or a triple. In Citi Field Garko's slightly greater HR power may be eliminated. Ultimately they are roughly the same offensive player, and I believe Tatis' defensive versatility makes him the more valuable player.

One point I absolutely, 100% agree with you on is I also cannot wait until the free agency period begins.
