Man with a Plan????

Hopefully Met fans will be giving Omar Minaya a thumbs up at the end of the offseason

Every day during the Hot Stove Season I hear that that the Mets either will or won’t spend money on big name free agents. Two of the Mets biggest needs, another quality starting pitcher and a power bat, can be filled with the signing of a check. But again trying to predict and discuss the Mets financial situation is like trying to decipher early hieroglyphics, no one is exactly sure.
So this leads me to wonder if Omar Minaya has an offseason plan? We have heard numerous times from the organizational hierarchy, that the Mets are committed to winning. I will believe it when I see it.
The Mets have been linked with Lackey. But when the reports surface that they won’t go all out to sign him, they become linked with Randy Wolf, Jason Marquis, Joel Piniero, and the oft injured Ben Sheets. The bottom line is the Mets need a pitcher who is consistent. Any of the aforementioned pitchers will do. To me, one John Lackey is almost the equivalent of any of the other 2 pitchers listed above.
In terms of a power bat, Matt Holliday would be ideal. He is younger than Jason Bay and better defensively, which when comparing the two isn’t saying a whole lot. Holliday would be a welcomed addition in the lineup in between David Wright and Carlos Beltran. There aren’t a lot of other power options out there on the free agent market. Acquiring power will take a creative trade or a gift from the gods that Daniel Murphy can hit 20-25 homers.
Another need for the Metropolitans is at catcher. Bengie Molina seems to be the most logical choice. He comes from a dominant catching family and can still mash. He would add some much needed depth to the lineup. Signing Orlando Hudson would be ideal, however, it seems unlikely due to the fact that Castillo is extremely difficult to trade. And I can see a right handed hitting first basemen joining the team for a season, in order to bridge the gap for Ike Davis later in 2010 or 2011.
Having said all this, it means nothing if Mets management doesn’t have a plan. They need to sit down and decide if they are going to make one huge cannonball splash, or several smaller dive splashes. Improving the team needs to be priority number one. Seeing the Phillies win two straight NL pennants should be more than enough motivation for the Mets to rise to prominence once again.

Happy thanksgiving for everybody, and i have to say this, as a met’s fan i think will be embarrassed to watch Delgado beat us playing for the braves as a low salary after we spent money and time waiting for him,and think in this, Roy Halladay and Vernon Wells to the mets for Perfrey,Jose Tejada y Omir Santos, i know is a expensive trade, but i prefer that than spend the money in Holliday and Lackey, and we can sign Bengie Molina to two years deal and wait for Thole, and if we can trade Castillo, them we can get Polanco or Hudson; and we can get this.
Reyes Santana
Polanco Halladay
Beltran Maine
Delgado Perez
Wells Niese
Wright
Molina
Francouer
In my personal opinion, Vernon Wells is a better player than Holliday and Bay, remember we are playing in a deep park, and what you need in a park like this is very good defense, and those two players are not the answer for the mets.
Vernon Wells is not better than Holliday or Bay and to make matters worse, has one of the most undesirable contracts in sports history
