Grab a slice Mets Fans, their is plenty where this came from

I don’t know about the rest of you, but the longer the Jets made their run into the playoffs the more I was able to stay blissful in a time where my favorite baseball team was shooting itself in the foot day in and day out. Just when you thought maybe things were gonna break the Mets way, they didn’t, and what had happened in 2009 seemed to be carrying over in 2010.
Now after a week or so to sit back and think about what has gone down with the New York Mets in this off season, I can only seem to think this is exactly what we needed to have happen. Now I’m sure your wondering what exactly I’m talking about.
Lets face facts, this team and its expectations have been very high for the last four years or so. In fact I think we have all caught a little bit of what I like to call “Yankee Fan Disease”. What I’m talking about is that we all seem to think that the Mets are just entitled to just about all the praise one can heap on them and that winning a championship is a formality. As we have seen the past four seasons, that is not the case.
This team does seem to remind me alot of what the 1980’s New York Yankees were, and when you happen to see that those teams won more games in that decade then any other in the AL, it makes you wonder why they are looked at so poorly. They had stars like Ricky Henderson (Jose Reyes), Don Mattingly (David Wright), Dave Winfield (Carlos Beltran), a solid closer in Dave Righetti (K-Rod) and even a lefty starter that had seen some amazing years in the early part of his career in Ron Guidry (Johan Santana).
The Team on paper should be a great team and we all know that they could easily be that great team. I think though its time to finally understand that maybe this team is just not ready. The Mets have been built up to the point where anything less then a championship isn’t great and for the 45+ years the franchise has existed, those kind of expectations were not around. The story about this franchise has always been expect the unexpected, even in 1986, a miracle took place before a team that saw itself as the best of the best became the best team in the world.
The Mets and maybe some of us fans need to sit down, grab a piece of some humble pie and eat up. This team has the players to make a contending team for sure, but its time we tempered expectations a bit. Hey, sometimes when you let off a bit, sit back and realize that with time things can work out, it happens sooner then you think.

Last year Sports Illustrated said the Mets would win the World Series on their Front Page. Maybe that was the kiss of Death. We started off good until the injuries happened and everything went down. hill. This year we are the underdogs with sports writers laughing at us. But there is only one way to go and thats up. We have the players to go that way, Reyes,Wright,Bay,Frenchy, Beltran (when he returns hopefully in May). This will be Murphys year to step up having gained muscle pounds and footwork at a Football training area in Fla.He should be able to hit 26HRs. Castillo, Santos and Pagan should be able to give some support. Pelfrey,Maine,Ollie should be better and healthy>Niese will be good and of course Santana will excel. The pen has enough good players to help out. Have faith in your team. LETS GO METS

While I believe the Phillies are better stocked to win, it only takes injuries to key players for the rest of the pack (including the Mets) to possibly win.
A healthy team (both physically and mentally) is the 1st Step to success. Manuel has to rest Bay, Reyes and Beltran as much as possible while working in breaks for the rest of the starting lineup. I am not so sure of the bullpen. I thought they should have given Chad Bradford a ML Deal.
