Where has Michael Ganci been?

Well, it has been the longest stretch since the inception of the Stache that I have gone without writing. I don’t know why exactly. Maybe it is because we, as a whole, have written about every possible thing that there is to write about. That’s probably not the truth. Maybe it’s because this off season was supposed to be a time where management fixed all of the team’s problems, whether it was with players or personnel.

Low and behold, Carlos Beltran is already on the sideline and there has already been a fair amount of drama due to the fact that there was miscommunication between he and the team. Beltran claimed that Minaya gave him his blessing to have his injury fixed, but apparently the Mets wanted Beltran to seek a third opinion.

Are they out of their effing mind?

You are talking about the guy that might be the most important part of your team’s success this year. He, along with Wright and Reyes, might be the most valuable player that the Mets have. Yes, the arrival of Jason Bay’s bat in the lineup eases the pain a bit, but I am sure that there will be plenty of moments early in the year that we wish Beltran was in the spot that is going to be occupied by either Angel Pagan or Gary Matthews Jr.

Also, what good would getting a third opinion be? Even if you do find some lunatic that says Beltran is alright, then what do you do? Force him to play so he could make the injury even worse? I don’t think so. Personally, I am not sure why Carlos didn’t address this manner in the off season, but I think we will be better off getting by in the beginning of the year than we would be in crunch time.

We have a host of new characters to evaluate. Who is excited to see a list of guys that include Frank Catalanotto, R.A. Dickey, Russ Adams, Josh Fogg, Mike Hessman, Chris Coste and Chris Carter?

I don’t know about you, but my hopes are exceptionally high, and yes, I am absolutely kidding.
