For the past 24 hours, the Stache has been down and out. It took me forever to get the issue resolved with the hosting site, AFMU. I just got an email from one of the higher ups, and here’s what he had to say.

“Your site was running a script that took the server offline. The server automatically shut your site down to prevent this. What exactly is your site doing? IF you are bug testing code it is usually best to do that on a local machine. I will put the site back up in just a moment.”

Now, while I have no idea what that means, the site is back up and running, and that is the most important thing.

Anyway, back to normal, and more stuff that I have gotten recently will be posted.

Scott Ragowsky of 12angrymascots.com, once again has sent me a hillarious video which is a must watch. This video talks about the emergence of “Jeff Wilpon’s” video blog, and he refers to all of his new fans as Wilpals. This is funny stuff. Enjoy it below.

Do You Remember: Cookie Rojas

Sometimes, when a blogger looks up different things to write about, he or she uses an interesting method to get there. This morning, I took a look at one of my favorite Mets’ sites, the Ultimate Mets’ Database. It turns out that today is the 61st birthday of former Mets’ third base coach Cookie Rojas.

But what many people don’t know is that Rojas’ history in baseball goes much further back than his days as a coach with the Mets.

First of all, Cookie’s father was not a supporter of his decision to play baseball, and his father thought Cookie would be better suited as a doctor, but that wasn’t meant to be. Cookie debuted with the Cincinnati Reds as a second baseman in 1962, but his tenure there was very short.

The newest news on the Reyes front is that he is leaving the team to fly back to New York to get the levels of his Thyroid checked. While speaking to the media today, both Reyes and Omar Minaya downplayed the visit, and they are just doing everything to make sure that Reyes is 100 percent healthy.

Call me paranoid, but I am never comfortable when I hear Reyes and Doctor being used in the same sentence.

With all that this guy has been through, I am dying to see him flying around the bases once the regular season kicks off, but more importantly, I am looking forward to seeing a smiling Reyes that is 100 percent healthy.

Who would represent the wild thing Rick Vaughn?

Who would represent the wild thing Rick Vaughn?

BY FRANK GRAY

If you grew up in the late eighties and early nineties, you remember the movies Major League (1989) and its sequel Major League 2 (1994). It was centered around a ragtag group of no name, little talent athletes playing for the Cleveland Indians.

The team concept swept through the clubhouse when it was revealed that their first season would be their last. The team unity and drive helped them overcome enormous obstacles and win their division with hilarity ensuing along the way.

We have had our own ragtag crew over the years right here in Queens, New York. They are known more commonly as the New York Mets. I believe it’s time to recognize our ‘Major League’ characters. Let’s introduce them, shall we? First, leading off Willie Mays Hayes, better known as Roger Cedeno, and as his understudy, Jose Reyes lately. I chose Cedeno, because his career with the Mets had injuries and highlights. It was short lived. He was always dealing with something.

Omir Santos: Being Looked Over?

Last season, Omir Santos was one of the few guys that was a breath of fresh air. He hit a game-winning homer against Jonathan Pabelbon, and now, Santos finds himself as the likely odd man out for a spot on the major league team. Does that seem fair?

While Santos did what he needed to do with the bat, he wasn’t the most successful catcher with working with a staff. Sure, he was single handedly responsible for driving Ramon Castro out of town, but he was often on a different page as the pitchers that he was catching, and the Mets need someone who can be a general on the field.

They had a guy last year who was good with the pitchers, and that was Brian Schneider. Unfortunately for Schneider, he couldn’t hit a ball of a tee, and it almost seemed like he was more of an automatic out than the pitcher’s spot in the lineup.

I just received an email from Scott Ragowsky of 12angrymascots.com, who sent me this very inspirational video regarding the remaining free agents in baseball. I do warn you. I got a bit emotional while watching this, and I think we should all thank Sarah McLachan for dedicating her time to this wonderful cause.

Looking for New Writers

Want to join the team?

Hey guys, with the new season officially underway I was looking to expand the team of writers on the blog. Any past experience blogging about the Mets is obviously better, but it’s not necessary. The types of posts I’d be looking for are opinion pieces, statistical analysis, news related items, and minor league news/reports. But pretty much anything else about you’d like to write about our Mets would probably be fine with me as long as it’s relevant to what is going on in Metsland at that time.

If you’d like to join the Daily Stache team, please email me at MichaelGanci@gmail.com with some info about yourself and the kinds of posts you’d like to write.

Thanks, looking forward to hearing from you.
