A source close to YAHOO!’s Tim Brown reports that Andruw Jones might be on the verge of signing a deal with the Texas Rangers. There were rumblings for a while that the Mets and Omar Minaya had some interest in him, but hopefully, this will put that nightmare scenario to rest.

Can you imagine what it would’ve been like to have to root for Andruw Jones? This is the same guy that I hated for so many years when he was a member of the Braves. Apparently, Bobby Cox was lobbying hard for him, but not even Cox could convince Braves’ management that Jones was worthwhile, and it was a good move in the long run.

When I picture Andruw Jones, I think back to when I was about 16 years old, and Andruw would be playing a deep center field in Shea Stadium when the Braves were in town. Mike Piazza would send a shot to right center field. Jones would look like he wouldn’t get there, but then he would hot dog it and make the catch without even moving his glove, all while he had an arrogant smirk on his face.

That is not the guy you want on this team. If you want someone with attitude issues, at least get Manny Ramirez. He can hit. Andruw has been a cellar dwellar for a while now, and it looks like he is being sent to purgatory to rot for eternity.
