I'm confused too Omar.

I am confused too Omar.

I don’t know where to begin. Twitter is both a gift and a curse. I’ve read more rumors and followed more stories in the past 24 hours than I have the entire year. It’s crazy out there folks. At one point I thought the Mets had acquired Pat Burrell. In another instant I thought the Mets had a deal in place to get Halladay. Last night I checked my phone and there was a tweet saying the Mets offered Lackey a contract.

Of course none of the above came to fruition and thank god Burrell ain’t a Metropolitan but these Winter Meetings have had my head spinning.

I’d like Omar to leave these meeting with 3 things accomplished. One, trade Luis Castillo. Two, sign or acquire at least 2 pitchers. Three, finalize whatever crazy idea he seems to have for the catcher position. I think Holliday, this early in the game, is a waste of time and effort.

Boras is angling to get him in a bidding war with the Mets, Red Sox and Cardinals. And I don’t think the Cardinals are interested anymore.

Hopefully, Burrell can go from being a Met Killer to being a Yankee Killer.

Throughout the years, there have been many guys that have feasted on Mets’ pitching. In present time, some guys that come to mind are Chipper Jones, Derek Jeter, Ryan Howard and Robert Andino. (Yes I am kidding about the last one.) But in my mind, when I think of Mets killers in the recent time, Pat Burrell is the first guy that comes to mind. But was he really as dangerous as we all made him out to be?

In 2007, Burrell hit just .228 in 57 at-bats against the Mets. Of his 13 hits off of the Amazins’, Burrell clobbered five homers, many of which were in clutch situations. But overall, the numbers were not very impressive. In 2008, Burrell was a non-factor against the Mets. Burrell hit just .197 with one homer and two RBI in 67 at-bats. Is that what a Met killer does? I don’t think so.

Don’t get me wrong. There was something about him that made me nervous. More often than not, Mets pitchers would get the best of him by striking him out, but Burrell knows how to hit the clutch home run. He has done that plenty of times against the Mets in his career, but I just don’t think he was as much of a threat in his last two seasons with the Phillies. It doesn’t upset me to see him go to Tampa Bay, and I will not even have a problem rooting for him to do well there. He is a terrible fielder who may be an excellent DH, so look out for him in fantasy.

Pat Burrell used to be a thorn in the side of the Mets, but those days are long behind us.
