The Mets need Beltran and Wright to be practically immortal to stand a chance of getting through this.

The last time the Mets played the Nationals, the date was May 25. The Mets had just taken two of three from the Red Sox, and were fresh off of a tough 12-5 loss. When the Nationals rolled into town, the Mets did exactly what they needed to by sweeping the Nationals with ease. Now, it’s time for the Mets to do the same on their turf. It isn’t going to be easy with the way the injuries are piling up, but this is going to be a true test to see what the Mets are truly made of.
JJ Putz is the latest Met to be down with an injury. He will have surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow on Tuesday, and he could be out at least three months. It was nice knowing you JJ.
There are several people who need to step up. One of them, and a man who people often criticize me for being too hard on, is David Wright. We have watched David the past few games look foolish at the plate. If a pitcher throws a slider low and away to him, he often pulls his head off and swings and misses. We need someone to tell him that he needs to always have the approach to go the other way. The homers will come soon, but the Mets need him to drive the ball to the gaps.
Another guy who is going to need to step it up is Daniel Murphy. He has looked overmatched recently, and there have even been some talks of a demotion. Personally, I think that’s nothing more than a scare tactic because the Mets simply don’t have the depth to make such a move.
The Mets need to get on a roll. There is no other way around it. Remember, YA GOTTA BELIEVE!
