Do You Know the Way to Sit Jose?

Jose Reyes needs to shut it down and worry about 2010 (Courtesy of All Posters.com)

Just another day in the Jose Reyes return from injury saga has come and gone, and the news has been less then positive, once again.
After planning to run the bases down in Port St. Lucie, Jose Reyes seemed to have, as Omar Minaya put it, one of his bad days. Omar didn’t seemed all that concerned as he explained that Reyes will have two good days and then will have one bad day.
It seems pretty easy to understand that one bad day when coming back from injury is one day too many, especially for Jose Reyes, whose legs are the reason he has become the player he is today.
In my opinion, at this point, the Mets have to make a move that will save a young player from have these frustrating starts and stops and look towards 2010 and beyond. Its time for the Mets to tell Jose to have a seat and pack it in until the off-season and get ready for next year.
The Mets’ Savior: Angel Berroa

Angel Berroa probably will not be on the 25-man roster when Jose Reyes returns.

On Thursday, the Mets split the day/night doubleheader with the Colorado Rockies. The bright one for the Mets was the opener, where they got an excellent performance from Johan Santana. But there was an unlikely hero who got the job done as well.
His name is Angel Berroa.

Time For Decisions: Omar’s On the Clock

There are many people who believe the Mets should sell high on Luis Castillo.

Today is a big day in baseball. The MLB Trade Deadline is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, and there has been a lot of talk about what the Mets should do. Some people believe that the Mets should add a piece or two, and others think the Mets should sell.
I disagree with both schools of thought.

Goodbye Cone Heads

A lot of people forget how good David Cone was when he was with the Mets. (PHOTO BY ICON SMI)

The Mets are notorious for trading away premium talent for players that are almost a useful as a bag of baseballs. The Scott Kazmir, Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver and Lenny Dykstra trades are just a few that caused every fan in New York to receive a collective migraine. However, there is one trade that is overlooked as one of the worst in their history. Does anyone remember David Cone for Jeff Kent and Ryan Thompson? Ugh.
I vividly recall where I was the day that hideous trade went down in 1992. Cone was my favorite Met and I was actually at the baseball card shop purchasing his rookie card. Wfan was on in the store, when suddenly the trade was announced. Some coincidence.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: MLB Trade Deadline

Baseball’s version of Christmas Eve, July 31st, is almost upon us. This is the final day during the season a team can make a trade without having to clear waivers with the players. Many moves have already been made, with more to come throughout the league. The Mets, still tentative on which side of the ledger they should be on, need to decide quickly.
A New York team, in all honesty, should NBS, Never Be Sellin’. This is the largest market in America. Finances should never be considered a detriment, due to all the revenue streams, and waving a white flag mid-season would have dire consequences with the fanbase. The Mets need to pick up one more impact type player, a pitcher or fielder.
The Case For Omar Minaya

Let me start by saying these words are my own and in no way reflect the views of the Daily Stache. With that said, I like Omar Minaya.
I realize the laundry list of reasons you all will give me to prove my stupidity, but hear me out.
What is the job of the general manager? To represent the franchise?…Propaganda. To make sure the organization is running smooth and everyone is behaving properly? Not buying that either. The ’86 Mets went through cocaine and women like sunflower seeds. That was a good year for the Metropolitans.
Time To Boycott Citi Field?

The Wilpon Era has generally been regarded as a failure.

Apparently, there is some sort of movement in the works. I recently received an email that outlines why we should boycott Citi Field and demand a change in Mets’ Ownership. I don’t know whether I support this or not, but one can argue that the circus is getting a bit out of hand. Check below for all of the details.

Castillo Continues To Produce

Luis Castillo has been a breath of fresh air this year. (PHOTO BY ICON SMI)

I Have to take a moment to praise Luis Castillo for a moment. This guy was booed everyday last year, every play, every at-bat and was told all off season he wouldn’t be back. The Mets could not trade him so they had no choice but to bring him back.
Meanwhile, while all the crap was in the air in NY, Luis was back home on the island getting ready to make a positive impact on the 2009 Mets roster. Not knowing if he’ll be back or if he’d lost his starting job he lost weight, got healthy, worked on what made him a champion in Florida, etc.
